You’ve Got a Happy Graham Father’s Day

Father Day is coming up in just a little less than two weeks. Check out the end of this post for more about the Father’s Day Printables we made that will help you share some love with the fathers in your life on their special day, because amazing fathers need to be loved and celebrated!

Great Fathers Make All the Difference

Being a father is such an incredible experience. I think that fathers are undervalued and underappreciated in our society today. It is hard to find a popular television show that portrays a loving father that the family loves and looks up to. The Homer Simpson father figure has taken over the majority of the shows we see these days.

I would like to submit that this is not the fact in reality. I personally know hundreds of wonderful fathers who sacrifice every single day for their families. These men are God fearing individuals who would do anything necessary for their children. I personally am striving every day to be a good father. Somedays, it is easier than others for sure.

My life was blessed with an amazing father. My dad is my real life Superman. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for me or my family. I have seen him selflessly serve my mother my entire life. My mother’s health hasn’t always been the best over the years, and I had the blessing of witnessing the love and tender care of a loving husband to his wife. Most of what my father has taught me in my life hasn’t been spoken. It has been shown. He has shown me what it means to serve God at church and in the community. He has blessed the lives of so many people. I am constantly being stopped in the store or at church by individuals who ask me if I am Jeff Decker’s son. Every time, I proudly say, “Yes I am one of the lucky ones who calls him dad.”. They then always proceed to tell me how amazing he is and how much he has helped them with some thing or another. It is humbling to have such huge shoes to fill as I navigate fatherhood myself. But I try each and every day to be like my dad!

Fathers in all Shapes and Sizes

Fathers don’t always look the same in every situation. Whether it be a paternal father, a step-father (or bonus dad), grandpa, brother, church leader, teacher, or neighbor, men all over the world are being father figures to people who aren’t always “their own” children. I have had Boy Scout leaders, teachers at school, dads of my friends, to name a few, who have taught me valuable lessons over the years. They may not know it, but it changed my life. I know several men who are not able to currently, or ever, have children of their own. My heart goes out to them as well. But, let me tell you that being a father figure to those around you is just as important. I have a cousin who just had the opportunity to adopt two little boys. They may not be biologically his, but he loves them just as much as if they were.

So today, even though early, I say THANK YOU and HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to ALL fathers, father figures, grandpas, bonus dads, and future fathers everywhere! You matter. You make a difference. You are the miracle the world needs right now to face the challenges of the day. Your acts of kindness and sacrifice, whether big or small, are noticed. You may not see it, but I am sure there is a little boy watching you in the background and looking up to you with the profound dream to one day grow up to be just like YOU. One of my favorite songs that reminds me of me and my dad is called Watching You by Rodney Atkins. It portrays this idea perfectly about a little boy looking up and watching his dad even when his dad isn’t aware of it. If you don’t know it, watch it below.

He said I’ve been watching you dad, ain’t that cool
I’m your buckaroo, I wanna be like you
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah we’re just alike, hey ain’t we dad
I wanna do everything you do
So I’ve been watching you

Your children will love coloring and drawing their “dads” in their lives. And, speaking as a father, I LOVE when my children do these things for me. It is low cost, but invaluable. I save them to read later as they grow. I mean, when my 4 year old daughter said last year that I was 2 years old and 400 pounds, I laughed. A little hurt about the weight idea ha ha, but it is something I have to cherish for years to come!

I hope you enjoy this packet and that it brings a little bit of extra joy to the amazing fathers in your lives this Father’s Day!

I’d love to know if you used them and the reactions of the dads. I’d love it if you’d tag Happy Graham on instagram or Facebook to share pictures of your pages.

Have a wonderful Father’s Day celebrating the amazing men in your life!
